School officials at Putnam City Schools in Oklahoma City are working to investigate a hoax threat made to the district.

Putnam City Schools said multiple middle schools, including Kenneth Cooper Middle School, were named as part of a threat posted on social media.

The district said it has worked with the Putnam City Campus Police Department, Warr Acres Police Department, and Oklahoma City Police Department, who have determined the threat to be of low credibility.

The district released the following statement Monday morning to parents:

Middle School Families,
Putnam City Schools Administration, alongside the Putnam City Campus Police Department, Warr Acres Police Department, and Oklahoma City Police Department, have been made aware of a social media hoax threat naming multiple middle schools in Putnam City. We have been working with law enforcement to investigate the hoax threat and the individuals involved. After preliminary investigation, the hoax threat has been deemed to be of low credibility.
Safety for our students, staff, and campus community remains our number one priority. We take every threat seriously and will continue to be vigilant and work with law enforcement to keep our community safe from this hoax threat and any following. Families may see an extra presence of law enforcement on and around our campuses. We are grateful to our local law enforcement for working around the clock to keep our campuses safe. Additionally, we appreciate everyone who has alerted administration and law enforcement to the hoax threat. Please remember to see something, say something, and do something so we can all work together to keep everyone safe and have a healthy and positive learning environment.

Investigators are working to identify who may be behind the hoax threat.

Another message from the district was sent to parents after class on Monday:

Middle School Families,
Thank you for trusting us with your children’s safety and education. We understand the concern caused by recent threats on social media, but we were heartened to see so many smiling faces this morning. We appreciate the swift collaboration between law enforcement and school administrators in identifying the individual behind the posts targeting our middle schools. While confidentiality prevents us from sharing further details, please rest assured there is no ongoing threat to our students or schools.
We encourage families to remind students of responsible social media use. Re-sharing threatening posts spreads unnecessary fear, but reporting them to law enforcement and school officials is essential. Remember: See something, say something, do something.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Go Boldly, Putnam City Schools Administration
