An Edmond officer charged with first-degree manslaughter in the 2023 shooting death of her brother was denied immunity on Monday.

A judge issued the ruling against Lieutenant Jennifer Haddock following a two-day immunity hearing held earlier this month. Haddock had argued she acted in self-defense when she fatally shot her brother, Sean Haddock, during a family dispute last August.

Haddock testified that she was helping her mother move from an Edmond apartment when her brother became irate over bedroom furniture he claimed was his. She said the confrontation escalated, and she shot him out of fear for her life after he backed her into a corner.

The judge’s written ruling means Haddock will face trial for the shooting.

Haddock’s attorney, Patrick Quillian, expressed disappointment in the decision but reiterated confidence in his client’s defense. “We presented strong testimony supporting Jennifer’s account of what happened,” Quillian said. “We’ll now prepare for the next steps in the legal process.”

The prosecution, during the hearing, questioned why Haddock, an Edmond police officer, did not call for a civil standby that day. Haddock responded that she had not anticipated the dispute with her brother becoming a life-or-death situation.

Court documents revealed Sean Haddock was under the influence of methamphetamine and fentanyl at the time of his death.

Haddock, who remains on paid administrative leave from the Edmond Police Department, will now proceed to trial, where the events surrounding her brother’s death will be further examined.
