The Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library will host a book talk on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., featuring author Connie Cronley discussing her book "A Life on Fire, Oklahoma’s Kate Bernard."

“Saturday at 1:30, we are going to be having our local author, Connie Cronley,” said Julia Moser, an event organizer. “She’s going to be talking about her book "A Life on Fire, Oklahoma’s Kate Barnard" and telling us more about the research that she did and who Kate Barnard is.”

Barnard was Oklahoma’s first Commissioner of Charities and Corrections and the first woman elected to a state office in the state, advocating for prison reform, child labor laws, and women's rights.

The event is part of the museum’s effort to offer free educational resources.

“Education is really important to us, especially in offering free resources to the public, and we want to continue honoring that connection by offering more and more programs throughout the year,” Moser said.

Cronley will speak for about 45 minutes, discussing Barnard’s legacy and her connection to historian Angie Debo, and will also offer signed copies of her book.

Attendees can also explore the museum, which highlights Oklahoma’s early history, the land runs, and statehood.

The event is free and open to the public. CLICK HERE for more information.
