The Superintendent of Little Axe Public Schools has issued a statement following the circulation of a viral video showing a student using racial slurs in a classroom.

The footage captures an exchange between two students over a desk, during which one student directs racial slurs and threatening language at the other.

On Tuesday morning, News 9 became aware of the video and contacted Little Axe Public Schools for comment.

They responded with this statement from Superintendent Jay Thomas.

Dear Little Axe Community, This morning we were made aware of a very concerning video that occurred yesterday in a classroom. At no time will racism, threats of violence, and behavior such as what was witnessed in this video be tolerated at Little Axe Public Schools. Disciplinary measures have been taken and appropriate measures will continue to be explored. We are working with law enforcement to explore further options. As this relates to a student, I can not provide further detailed information. Professionally, Dr. Jay Thomas Superintendent
