Now showing at the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, the musical "Waitress" is drawing in crowds from across the metro.

On Tuesday, the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch is learning more about the show and what goes into each night's performance.

The Porch spoke with Jaleesa Beavers and Justin Larman, who play the characters Becky and Ogie, respectively.

Q: Can you tell us what "Waitress" is about?

Beavers: "Waitress is about three friends in a diner somewhere in the Midwest, and their relationships, their friendships, and just how their lives come together and weave together with one another on a day-to-day basis."

Q: You were telling us before that a lot of you guys already knew each other, you're all Oklahomans. Tell me about the camaraderie that you have with this cast.

Larman: "Oklahoma has an incredible theater community here, and all of us, from all over, kind of all come together. A lot of us have known each other a little bit. There is one Texan in the show, but he's kind of good, so we'll let him come play with us. It's great to see all these different connections in Oklahoma City all kind of come together, and we have all new friends now with this beautiful little skit that we're doing."

Q: Can you tell us about the set and what is taking place here?

Beavers: "The cool part of this set is that it turns into multiple things. Right now, you're looking at a diner, but if you look over this door, behind this door, there is a bathroom that comes out, [and] it'll slide out. There's a fake door on this other side over here, and a couch will come out. So it turns into Jenna's house, and we turn it into a hospital we have there. They have been incredibly imaginative with taking this one small space and turning it into an entire world."

Q: How important do you feel it is to support our Oklahoma musical theater performers"

Larman: "Like I said this community here is super special ... What I love specifically about this space is that it's intimate, and especially this show fits really well here, especially for this community and for this cast that is getting to perform it. Like I said, we don't need a dialect coach because we're all southern here, and so come on down and get a slice of pie at Pie Junkie and see our beautiful show here.

"Waitress" will run until March 2, but there are shows available each day until then.
