After months of legal challenges in Cleveland County, plans for a turnpike expansion will resume after the Oklahoma Supreme Court rules in the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority's favor.

Hundreds of homeowners in Norman have been fighting to keep their property, which would be demolished to make way for the construction.

The OTA says it is resuming engineering work on the south extension, saying it will alleviate congestion on I-35.

"Move heavy traffic out of OKC center to OKC outer loop, which ultimately lessens congestion and crashes between Purcell and Oklahoma City," OTA Director Joe Echelle said.
