Super scooper planes were ordered dumping water on a huge fire right outside of Leedy in Camargo Sunday.
Roger Mills Emergency Management staff say earlier Sunday afternoon, this fire in Camargo had already burned over five thousand acres raising concerns for Leedy residents.
“I'm just being aware. keep an eye on things and just paying attention, paying attention to what's going on around you,” said Leedy resident Judy Garza.
Roger Mills Emergency Management Director Levi Blackketter said different parts of Leedy have been burning since Friday.
He said Dewey County has received help from firemen coming from Alfalfa County and others to help out.
“Right now we have several task force here. They're checking for hotspots. They're making sure that our lines are secure and hopefully get everything out before the wind hits and keep everybody safe,” said Blackketter.
Dewey County Safety Director Taylor Bentley added the Leedy portion of the fire has burned more than 27 thousand acres as of Sunday.
Bentley said she is grateful for the many firefighters and task forces pitching in to help.
“They help everyone keep going. and we are monitoring the fire weather for Monday and Tuesday, and we are preparing for that,” added Bentley.
Blackketter also added it is difficult to contain the fires because of the canyons and cedar trees. He said when the heavy winds come, the fire picks back up.
