Michelle Young, an inmate at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, was found unresponsive in her cell around 3:50 a.m. on Monday by staff during breakfast service, according to detention center officials.

Officials said Officers, EMSA, and Oklahoma City Fire personnel administered NARCAN and CPR, but Young was pronounced dead at 4:46 a.m. after being transported to the hospital.

Michelle Young, born Mar. 18, 1996, had been in jail since Feb. 13, 2025, on a failure to appear charge related to a 2024 indecent exposure case. She was held on a $5,000 bond.

The cause of death is under investigation and is being treated as a homicide, per standard procedure. The death will continue to be treated as a homicide until the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office makes a final determination regarding the cause of death, jail officials said.

Security footage confirmed that a detention officer had performed a 'sight check' at 2:51 a.m., approximately one hour before Young was found unresponsive in her cell, according to a news release from OCDC.
