In the weeks leading up to the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, runners are getting ready for the big race next month.
In Yukon, residents living at the Spanish Cove Retirement Village are no different, as training for the senior marathon intensifies.
The Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch visited the retirement village to get to know this year's runners.
The group of Spanish Cove runners was the largest in 2024's senior marathon, the the group's members say they are looking forward to taking part next month.
"It's so important, walking is such a great skill for seniors," Spanish Cove Wellnbess Director Debbie Miller said. "What a great way to be healthy and increase how far we're walking. We're going to do 25 miles prior to Saturday, April, 26, and then the day of the senior marathon, we'll do 1.2 miles together."
Two of the group's longtime runners, Kathy Moffitt and Linda Manaugh, say the marathon is important to Oklahoma City's identity.
"The bombing, it was just something tragic, and then something so good coming out of it," Moffitt said.
"Im not sure how many I've done with Oklahoma City," Manaugh said. "I think almost every year I've either been a volunteer or I've run the relay, the 5k, the half marathon. I ran one full marathon in 2016 when I was already pretty old, so I don't I've not run as long as Kathy, but I ran my first full marathon when I was 65 so if I can do that, anybody can do that."
