Britton District hosting festival, 1-mile fun run featuring local food and vendors

The Britton District in northwest Oklahoma City is celebrating new upgrades from a multi-million dollar investment by the city.

The Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch is checking out all the new additions and learning how you can join in on the fun.

In 2021, the City of Oklahoma City approved an investment to renovate sections of the historic district.

Now, with the renovations completed, Britton District organizers are putting together a celebration this weekend to honor the district's new look.

"We've got new roadways in many instances, new water sources, but the roadway is new from Western to I-235," Britton District Board Chair David Wood said. "The second bond issue, which I think is probably the most important and the most dramatic, is the new landscaping, the new bump outs, the new parking, and then probably the most important to all of us vendors here in the in the district, is the new safety crosswalks."

Wood said the changes are welcomed, and now the area is looking forward to increased foot traffic.

"Thursday at 11 a.m. is a press conference and a ribbon cutting, which is the city's acknowledgement of the completion of the bond issues," Wood said. "On Saturday, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., we have a festival that will be between Ollie and Francis here on Britain Road."

Wood said the festival will include a one-mile fun run, with athletes required to stop and taste-test the food at checkpoints along the way.
