News 9's Movie Man Dino gives us a look at the smash-hit historical drama 'The Chosen', as it returns to the small screen for its fifth season debut.
Depicting the life of Jesus, the newest season brings the divine protagonist back to Jerusalem, where 'The Last Supper' would take place.
The portrayal of Jesus is done exceptionally well by American Actor Jonathan Roumie. Lalli asked him about the dramatic scenes in the upcoming season.
He said that as an actor, he enjoyed the physical aspects of shooting the intense moments.
"How many times does a character in any movie get to flip a table?," Roumie said. "I think the fact that also, it's Jesus, it's not what a lot of people have been waiting for. To see the culmination of Jesus' unrest with how the Pharisees were running the temple and how they were mistreating the pilgrims coming into Jerusalem."
He also spoke about a ritual between Writer, Director and Creator Dallas Jenkins and himself that takes place before they start shooting. It all began at season one.
"Especially at the beginning, just being in prayer before we started shooting a single frame, Dallas and I just kind of embracing and just praying that, you know, that the Lord would use this project and use our work and our commitments to him and our virtually simultaneous surrenders in our personal lives to God to be able to activate this artistic endeavor in a way that might bless other people," Roumie said.
Movie Man also caught up with Jenkins, to ask about what people might want to do before the new season, besides watching the first four.
"I know you might feel intimidated or might think, well, this is a Bible-based show, so maybe it's not for me because maybe I'm not a believer, I haven't read the Bible before," he said. "Just know that over 80% of our viewers were reluctant. I think people have found the world over that this is a television show that accurately captures humanity, and there's something for you to relate to."
'The Chosen' season five will be released in three parts in theaters.
Part 1 will premiere this weekend, Part 2 is April 4, and Part 3 will be April 11. After the showings, the series can be seen on the Chosen app, and in September, the entire series will be available on Prime.
