Elk City Lake installs artificial reefs for better fishing

The city of Elk City collaborated with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation to secure a grant to improve fish habitats in Elk City Lake. The city assembled and installed MossBack structures, which are essentially artificial covers for the fish to hide, reproduce, shade, or feed. The project is designed to improve the fish population, increase fish size, and enhance the overall fishing experience. Elk City Lake is good for bass fishing.

The wildlife department’s grant program is for reservoirs smaller than 4,000 acres that are accessible to the public. This partnership features a 1:1 match, where ODWC will match the grant applicant's non-federal funds up to $2,500, resulting in a total of $5,000.
