Oklahoma City leaders officially committed to the requirements to host two Olympic events in 2028 on Tuesday.

Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt shared on social media Tuesday morning that the city council voted to adopt a resolution to host the canoe slalom and softball events.

The city is now required to set aside $34.5 million, however, Holt said in Tuesday's meeting that the amount of money is only an estimation of total expenses provided by the Los Angeles Organizing Committee.

"That is not a check we ever expect to write," Holt said. "Basically, that amount is what LA28 has calculated as their expense of having to stage canoe slalom and softball in the LA area if we [Oklahoma City] do not.

The 2028 Summer Olympic Games will start on July 14, 2028, in Los Angeles.
