A Tulsa man is out on bond after being charged with ramming his car into two women outside a bar last month, leaving one of the victims hospitalized for weeks with severe injuries, authorities said.
Prosecutors charged the suspect, Dante Boykin, this week and he was arrested and is now out on bond.
Boykin is charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, accused of intentionally ramming his car into two women outside a bar, causing serious injuries.
A long road to recovery:
One of the victims, Samantha Camacho, has been in the hospital for a month and had her eighth surgery Monday. Camacho has a broken leg, shattered knee and fractured arm and has been having nightmares about what happened to her. Along with her injuries, she's lost her job, her car and now can't afford her rent.
"It's been horrible. I've just been in pain, pain and suffering and everything you know. I'm here in the hospital just surgery after surgery,” said Camacho. "Just seeing a vehicle with lights on just coming right to me you know, not being able to run and go anywhere and that's one thing that's scary."
What happened:
Police say a fight broke out at Friendly Tavern over a pool game, and the fight spilled into the parking lot. Investigators say the suspect, Dante Boykin drove his car into the crowd of people, then backed out and rammed his car into Camacho, who was standing by her car trying to leave. Police say Camacho and her friend weren't involved in the fight and are innocent victims.
An anonymous tip led police to Boykin, who admitted to police he hit the women but said he was just trying to leave and didn't mean to hurt anyone.
Camacho says this has taken a major toll on her life.
"I have rent paid this month, but then months on, I don't have any income or anything coming in,” said Camacho. "But here I am. I'll get better. You know, God's on my side."
Boykin’s Criminal History:
Records show Boykin has previous convictions for drugs and fraud. He is now charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.
News On 6 received the following statement from Boykin's attorney.
"Brian Martin says his client has cooperated with the investigation, agreed to meet with detectives and didn't intentionally hit the women. He says Boykin was just trying to leave the parking lot."
