In this edition of Daily Dose, Dr. Lacy Anderson answers a viewer's question about what discounts are available for weight loss drugs that aren't covered by insurance.
Dr. Anderson said for those interested in starting weight-loss treatments without insurance coverage, both Wegovy and Zepbound offer cash-payment discounts. Wegovy, the weight-loss version of Ozempic, provides a savings card that reduces the monthly cost to $499. This discount can be accessed by searching online for "Wegovy Savings Card."
She said that Zepbound, a weight-loss version of Mounjaro, also offers a discount, though it applies only to the vials, not the injectable pens. The cost for Zepbound vials starts at $349 per month for the 2.5 mg dose, rising to $499 for the higher 5, 7.5, and 10 mg doses. To access this pricing, your doctor must send a prescription for the vials to Eli Lilly’s mail-order pharmacy, Lilly Direct. This discount is not available at local pharmacies.
