A Spaulding tornado siren is repaired after receiving damage from a lightning strike, which stopped it from sounding prior to a deadly EF1 tornado that hit the town Saturday, Hughes County leaders say.

According to Hughes County Emergency Manager Mike Dockery, the siren was activated, but silent during the storm. A test on Monday confirmed the siren has been struck by lightning, burning out its control board.

84-year-old Jerry David died when the tornado hit his mobile home. His wife was also injured. No other injuries were reported.

The tornado destroyed two homes and damaged several buildings.
