U.S. Sen. James Lankford made a stop in Tulsa on Tuesday as the featured guest at the Tulsa Regional Chamber’s first Congressional Forum of 2025. Inside the event, the senator addressed local business leaders about his legislative priorities and current national issues. Outside, a group of protesters gathered, demanding that Lankford engage more directly with constituents.
Demonstrators are frustrated about tariffs and fear potential cuts to veterans’ benefits, as well as Medicare and Medicaid under the current administration.
Many of the protesters expressed frustration with some lawmakers' reluctance to hold in-person town hall meetings.
“We don’t like what’s being taken away from us,” said protester Martin Barnes. “We don’t like all the cutbacks — you name it.”
“He refuses to have a town hall,” added Linda Carter, another demonstrator. “He hides behind his videos. He needs to come out and talk to his constituents.”
Lankford, along with fellow Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin, has opted for virtual town halls in recent months. However, many in the crowd said face-to-face interaction is essential and urged the senator to reconsider.
