Police continue to investigate a deadly shooting in Bartlesville early Sunday.
Officers said the shooting happened at about 1:15 a.m. in the Oak Park neighborhood on the northwest side of town. Police found a 44-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound lying in the street.
Neighbors said they heard arguing and multiple gun shots. Police believe the victim had come to the neighborhood after leaving a west Bartlesville park several miles to the south.
Investigators say witnesses told them the victim was involved in an argument at Douglass Park.
People who live there didn't want to talk on camera but showed us where one of the bullets hit the back of their vehicle. A neighbor recalled hearing someone say, "If they shoot we'll shoot back," before the shooting.
Police say whatever caused the problem it did not have to end like it did.
"If you're a party to it walk away. I mean let's face it, all around our country there are people dying because of wearing colors. My stars, human life is worth more than that. Walk away, diffuse it," said Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland.
News On 6 has spoken to several people who say they know the victim and have told us his name. Police are not releasing it until all of victim's family can be notified.
