Broken Arrow police are investigating a reported attempted kidnapping after a man says he believes someone tried to take his child.
Police say they cannot confirm there was a kidnapping attempt, but they are investigating.
The child’s father says he remembers in vivid detail just how scared his 11-year-old was when she ran into their house Sunday night.
“She said ‘somebody tried to get me to get inside their vehicle,’ so the first thing I did was I jumped in my truck and I tried to find this person,” he said.
He says his daughter was walking the family dog just outside the house when, she says, a vehicle pulled up to her and someone inside tried calling her over.
“She immediately screamed and then she turned around and she ran back home,” the father said. “She was kind of in a state of shock, so I told her to calm down and explain to me what happened.”
He says he was able to flag down a Broken Arrow police officer.
“It is a scary feeling. It’s something that no parent wants to hear or go through,” he said.
That reported incident led to a social media post that caused confusion about a possible abduction. The post claims there have been multiple kidnapping attempts and says a father was looking for kidnappers who had just tried to take his daughter in the area of 121st and Elm.

Monday morning, police initially said no one had reported an incident to them.
“There was miscommunication between the entire situation because the police didn’t have all of the information at that time,” said the father.
He says he never called to report the incident – he had flagged down and spoke directly to an officer.
Now, police confirm they have a detective assigned to the case who is looking into what happened.
“Parents need to talk to their children about stranger danger and about how to handle a situation,” the father stated.
If you know anything about this incident, contact the Broken Arrow Police Department.
