Police in Pottawatomie County are warning residents about three armed burglars that hit as many as 20 homes Thursday.
Home security video from one of the burglaries shows two black males first casing the home, then going in. But before they did they took out pistols, one chambering a round.
“They both had firearms, went into the house for a short period of time while the homeowners were upstairs asleep. They never woke the homeowners. Contact was never made,” said Detective Jason Crouch of the Shawnee Police Department.
“You can see on the video that they’re kind of casing the area, looking around maybe seeing if anyone’s there, probably don’t want to go in if anyone’s there. Just looking through the windows, and they both pulled guns out of their pockets, and they racked a round into the gun,” continued Crouch.
The two got away in a small blue SUV with some cash.
The Shawnee Police Department said it’s investigating several similar break-ins.
The Potawatomie County Sheriff’s Office also responded to at least a dozen similar break-ins, and the sheriff’s office believe it’s the same thieves.
“We’re working with the Potawatomie County Sheriff’s Office to get some information passed on to both so we can find these people,’” said Crouch. “We’ve made contact with some people with the county and have been provided with some additional security video from their place and it’s the same people.”
Some of that video shows the two suspects with a white female, knocking on a door of another home. The three took off when the homeowner came out with a gun.
“Oh, it’s very dangerous. It appears right now that this is a random act. And if it’s a random act, then that’s very, very scary,” said Crouch.
“Don’t ever leave anything unlocked. Don’t leave your house unlocked. Don’t leave your cars unlocked. Know where your keys are. You can never be too safe, even if you’ve lived in a community for 30 plus years and you think you’re safe, you’re not ever safe,” continued Crouch.
If you recognize the three, Shawnee police would like to hear from you at 405-273-2122.
