Garvin County Sheriff's Office, Lindsay Police Warn Public Of Possible Law Enforcement Impersonator

An impostor pretending to be a Garvin County deputy pulled over two women during a traffic stop. Now, the Garvin County Sheriff's Office is warning drivers as law enforcement across the county look for the man pretending to be one of them. 

Garvin County Sheriff Jim Mullett said for two women alarms went off when a man claiming to be one of his deputies pulled them over.

The first victim was stopped on Highway 77 near the Pauls Valley Hospital by a man driving a dark-colored Dodge Charger.

“This car did have some red and blue lights, not a whole lot of them,” said Sheriff Mullett.            

But when the man approached the woman, she sensed something was wrong.

“What struck her is that the belt didn’t fit, and she couldn’t find a visible badge, no patches on the shoulders anything like that,” said Sheriff Mullett.            

When asked for her information, the woman hesitated.

“She asked what if I don’t give it to you, suspecting something wasn’t right. He said I’ll give you a speeding ticket,” said Sheriff Mullett.

The woman drove away.

“He got in behind her and drove into Pauls Valley,” said Mullett.  

Once the suspect realized the woman was headed to the sheriff’s office, he disappeared.

Days later near the intersection of Highway 29 and Highway177, another woman, who happened to be a Garvin County dispatcher, reported a similar incident.  

“She stated I don’t recognize you, are you a reserve? He said no, I’m a deputy with the sheriff’s office. She said that's funny, because I work for the Garvin County 911 Center as a dispatcher, and I don’t recognize your voice,” said Sheriff Mullett.

Again, the man drove off.  

The man is described as a white male of medium build with light brown to blonde hair and tattoos on his throat, arms, hands and one under his eye. The man reportedly stood at 5 foot 10 inches and was dressed in all black.

“It is alarming to us, it's something we take very seriously, we're thankful nothing has happened,” said Sheriff Mullett.
