2, Including Toddler, Attacked By Dog In Edmond

A tragic scene unfolded in an Edmond neighborhood where police said a woman helped pull a mauled toddler to safety. Police said the boy’s father attempted to keep the dog who attacked the toddler at bay.

It happened at a home near 2^nd Street and Coltrane Tuesday, August 6.

“As soon as I got out of the vehicle, I heard the man screaming for help,” said good Samaritan Kimber Roberts.

Danger and chaos filled the normally quiet neighborhood.

“I was very shocked, it’s very sad that a toddler and adult were attacked by a pit bull,” said concerned neighbor Sean King.

“That corner is our school bus stop, elementary and high schoolers all congregate there,” said neighbor David Lee.              

Roberts had just returned home from work, when she heard a father pleading for help.

“Please someone help, I need help, someone please help,” said Roberts.                

She ran over and found the man wrestling a 50-pound pit bull away from his 2-year-old son.

“The father was doing everything he could do to protect his son, to keep that animal contained,” said Roberts.           

With the boy bloodied, screaming and crying, Roberts carried him out of harm’s way.

“I was just trying to console the child, letting him know he was safe and was going to be okay,” said Roberts.           

While police aren't sure why the dog attacked, Roberts said the dog appeared vicious, putting up a fight until it was taken away by Oklahoma City Animal Control.

“He was definitely wrestling the dog, he was fighting a lot,” said Roberts.

Police believe the dog belonged to visiting family members.

Witnesses said the attack happened in the backyard before spilling onto the front lawn.

Police told News 9 the dog will remain with animal control pending the outcome of the investigation. Neighbors claimed the owners of the dog have opted to have it euthanized.
