Hunkered down on the hot concrete with cars whizzing by and only a thin shell to protect you -- not a safe way to spend Memorial Day.
This News 9 Flashback story takes us back to 1994, and it's all about family fun over the Memorial Day weekend, a time to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and the unofficial start to summer.
Former News 9 reporter Gan Matthews has his unique take on the holiday.
Running. The family that runs together has fun together.
"We've got everybody, Dad and Mom, and Elizabeth, who's 4, and Stephen, who's 2, almost 3 and a baby that's four months old," said one parent.
Jazz. This is even better: cool music, cool shade.
"Unhurried and very relaxing," said a listener.
Baseball. You can't beat the national pastime. True Americana, and it's...
"Safe!" said the umpire.
Swimming. Poolside fun is a big splash, but protect yourself from those harmful UV rays.
"I tan easily, but I still use a minimal sunscreen during the summertime. So, I feel safe with that," said a sun worshiper.
