OK Attorney General To Decide Brewery Tap Room Law

It was billed as an "Independence day" for local craft brewers. The law allowing beer makers to sell "full point" pints in their tap rooms was supposed to take affect August 25.

On Friday, the Alcoholic Beverage Law Enforcement Commission said not so fast. It's asking for clarification from the Attorney General on the language of the law.

“It doesn’t spell out that you can have on premise consumption,” said ABLE Commission Director Keith Burt, about the current law.

“The legislative intent has always been very clear,” said the House Author of the bill, Rep. Cory Williams.

“To put the brakes on everything, we are totally vulnerable,” said Bruce Sanchez of Twisted Spike Brewery which is weeks away from opening.

Sanchez, like other brewers, invested heavily into his tap room after SB 424 became law.

Friday afternoon, the Attorney General released a statement saying he will review the issue and have a decision by the time the law is supposed to takes effect next Thursday.
