In a rematch of the 2015 USL Western Conference Final, OKC Energy FC and the LA Galaxy II played to a 0-0 draw at Taft Stadium on Saturday night.
In the 72nd minute, OKC drew a penalty kick from a handball in the box by Galaxy II, but Michael Thomas’s ensuing shot was blocked by LA keeper Clement Diop with a one-armed diving save that kept the game scoreless.
In the first half, the Energy held possession over LA as both teams fought for chances at the net. Timo Pitter gave the Energy a chance in the 32nd minute when Sebastian Dalgaard fed him a pass through the defense on the right side. Pitter’s shot came across the goal with Danni König there to punch it in, but a save by the Diop kept OKC off the scoreboard.
The Galaxy’s best chance came in the 39th minute as Bradford Jamieson IV dribbled down the left side and let loose a shot OKC keeper Cody Laurendi grabbed for his only save of the night.
With his 10th clean sheet of the season, Laurendi tied Evan Newton's 2015 club record for most shutouts in a single season.
Despite the penalty kick miss, OKC held a distinct advantage in the match, tallying 12 shots on goal to the Galaxy's four. Energy FC registered three shots on goal, while LA mustered just one.
The scoreless draw was Energy FC's sixth of the season -- four more than the club totaled in both 2014 and 2015. OKC has now been held without a goal for four consecutive matches, but has allowed just a single goal during that span.
Energy FC next visits Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday for a Black Gold Derby rematch. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at ONEOK Field.
