Oklahoma Career Tech honored their teachers with surprise cash awards on Monday.
Express Employment Professionals gave out $20,000 in prizes to the greatest Career Tech teachers, and the teacher of the year took home the biggest prize.
Mary Foxworth with Tulsa Tech took home a $10,000 prize. Foxworth said she will use the money to help her family, and buy class supplies.
“It's like a dream. It's what you've worked all your life. It's kind of like becoming the NFL player of the year in education,” Foxworth said.
Career Tech teachers design their curriculum around job readiness. Post-Secondary Teacher of the year, Dustin Hicks from Meridian Technology Center, took home a $5,000 prize. Natalie Jordan with Francis Tuttle Technology, took home the $2,500 Outstanding New Teacher of the Year prize, and Laura Manahan, an administrative assistant at Francis Tuttle, took home the Support Staff Member of the year prize.
