Edmond Youth Flag Football League Growing In Popularity

With sports head injury awareness at an all-time high, a new flag football league is bursting onto the local scene. It’s called “Friday Night Lights.” 

The league originated in California ten years ago. More than 20,000 kids, kindergarten through 8^th grade, participate.

Bob Fleet is the new league commissioner. He said both boys and girls play. There will be a nine-game schedule starting August 19.

They’ll play at D-Bat Sports Complex on Friday nights, and teams will practice just once a week.

“Because of the structure of the league, with no blocking or tackling, there’s a lot less likelihood of another injury, such as concussion,” he said.
