OK Co. Jail Employee Accused Of Smuggling Contraband To Inmates

An investigation continues at the Oklahoma County jail after a worker there was arrested and was accused of smuggling in contraband to inmates.

Investigators questioned that employee last week while she was at her job at the Oklahoma County jail, and claim she confessed to the crime.

Chelsye Renee Bacon, 25, of Oklahoma City, worked at the Oklahoma County jail for almost two years, before she was busted for smuggling in contraband.

Court papers show she told investigators about a month ago that she brought in a package for an inmate named Mark Finley.

Finley is in jail and is accused of murder for a deadly shooting. Investigators said Bacon said the package was from his girlfriend and she received money to smuggle in a phone to another inmate, but never delivered the goods.

“It's something we don't tolerate and it’s something we try to eradicate,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel during a Wednesday morning news conference.

Whetsel said back in August 2015, they began investigating why inmates were getting access to things like cellphones and drugs inside the jail. Back then, they arrested Alexander Plant, another jail employee accused of bringing meth into the jail.

The sheriff's office continued their investigation. In January, they found that two employees from Armor Correctional Health Services were possibly smuggling contraband. 

The employees were Kylie Greer, 24, and Raini Rubottom, 24. Greer was accused of having secret meetings with an inmate and was smuggling things in.

Both of them were arrested and charged.

Armor Correctional Health Services is a company that provides medical care for the Oklahoma County jail.

The sheriff said it's an ongoing problem at jails and prisons all over the country.

“At that point in time they don't care about their future, they don’t care about their family, just the financial aspect of it,” Whetsel said.

Bacon is currently out of jail on a $12,000 bond.

She faces charges of possession of contraband, conspiracy and drug possession after investigators found marijuana in her home, hidden in a kid's closet.
