Molly Worden was selected as the MIAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced Monday afternoon.
The sophomore from Fishbourne, Chichester, England, went 4-0 this past week and picked up a pair of 6-0, 6-0 singles victories to help Northeastern State secure the outright 2016 MIAA Regular Season Championship.
Worden also earned two triumphs at the No. 1 doubles position as NSU took down Washburn and Emporia State by identical 8-1 margins. She has now won 10-straight singles matches, all in straight sets, and she has been a big part of the RiverHawks current 12-match win streak.
The accolade is the first of Worden’s career, and she becomes the fourth different member of the team to bring home the honor this season. Other award winners include junior Valeriia Efimenko (March 14), senior Patricia Husakova (March 28) and sophomore Daria Panferova (April 4). No other school from the MIAA has more than two award winners this season.
The No. 16-ranked RiverHawks return home for their final home match of the year. They are set to welcome No. 20 Midwestern State at noon April 23.
