Edmond Athlete Qualifies For 2016 Olympics

An Edmond athlete just punched his ticket to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. 

Last weekend, Stephen Lambdin, 28, was one of two Heavyweight Taekwondo athletes to qualify for the Olympics at a qualifying event in Mexico.

Lambdin is from Fort Worth, but has trained at Edmond’s Poos Taekwondo for the past 13 years. While he competes in the Olympic Heavyweight division, Lambdin is only six feet two and 230 pounds.  But Lambdin said he uses speed and quickness to his advantage. 

“I mean they can’t hit what they can’t see, just like Muhammad Ali said,” he said. 

Lambdin’s Coach, Jason Poos, said Lambdin is a special talent. 

“To go through this process, he had to beat out an Olympic silver medalist from the United States, this is a huge accomplishment,” he said. 

Lambdin and Poos will leave for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil on August 2.
