It’s been a month since the Thanksgiving ice storm and still there is plenty of debris waiting to be picked up in debris. Now, residents will likely have to wait even longer.
The city simply doesn’t have the resources to clean up the mess. It’s waiting for word from FEMA to determine what to do. So for now, the city is asking residents to pile up the debris at a site on the northwest side of town.
“It’s getting bigger,” said one resident, Edward Young, as he piled more limbs on to the mountain of debris. “It wasn’t nearly this size last time I was out here”
Young is hoping to bring his debris to the site next week.
“It’s bad. It’s real life though” Young said. “Right now there ain’t nothing we can do about it except if we move it ourself.”
And that's what folks here are doing; with or without FEMA.
“We don’t really need FEMA,” one resident told News 9. “We can handle it ourselves some way or another. I mean, if they don’t want to come help, that’s their problem, not ours.”
