ODOT Travel Conditions Across Oklahoma

Oklahoma highways are starting to become slick in central and western Oklahoma as sleet, ice and rain continues to fall in most of the state. 

The state Transportation Department has released the following travel alert: 

Drivers should be alert to black ice, downed limbs and power lines on roadways 

Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews continue to monitor highways and bridges in several affected areas of the state. Motorists are urged to be very cautious of refreezing and black ice tonight.

Drivers should also remain alert to downed trees and limbs or power lines blocking highways, and never attempt to drive over a power line. 

While highways have improved today in central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City metro area, drivers should be aware of black ice developing on bridges as refreezing is occurring as temperatures drop overnight. I-35 from the metro area south to the Texas line remains wet. If travel is necessary, drivers should use extra caution in affected areas, especially on bridges, overpasses and ramps, which freeze before roadways and are likely to refreeze overnight.

Highways are wet with some slick areas in western Oklahoma, including the I-40 corridor. Roadways in Blaine and Custer County remain slick. Crews are monitoring conditions in southwestern Oklahoma and in the Panhandle.

Drivers should stay at least 200 feet behind road clearing trucks and equipment and not attempt to pass. 

If drivers must travel out of state they are urged to check area road conditions before heading out. 

Closed Due to Flooding

The following highways are closed due to high water. Updates will be issued as conditions change. Do NOT drive into high water. Drivers are cautioned to heed warning signs and to not drive around barricades.

Atoka County 
SH-131 is closed three miles west of US-69, near Wardville.

Cherokee County
SH-80 is closed three miles west of Hulbert.

Love County 
SH-77S is closed at the Lake Murray Spillway.

Pittsburg County
SH-31 is closed west of McAlester.
SH-63 is closed between Hartshorne and Blanco.
