AG Letters Prior To Glossip Execution Detail Drug Cocktail

A death row inmate is waking up Thursday morning after being minutes from death for the third time.

Richard Glossip was scheduled to be executed at 3 p.m. Wednesday, but Governor Fallin issued a 37-day stay over concerns with the execution drugs.

The Department of Corrections made the Governor aware of the concerns mid-morning on Wednesday. The DOC is supposed to use Potassium Chloride as the third drug cocktail, but instead the DOC had Potassium Acetate.

Over these 37 days we can expect several individuals to question how and why the DOC had the wrong drugs. And also, why didn't the Attorney General make Glossip aware of the Potassium Acetate ahead of Wednesday.

All of that should have been disclosed in letters to Richard Glossip. By protocol, the DOC is supposed to tell Glossip what drugs will be used to kill him 10 days prior to the execution. But the first letter from the AG sent in August listed the three drugs anticipated and stated Potassium Chloride. Then in a second letter sent 15 days ago, the AG states no changes will be made to Glossip's execution protocol.

This is the 3rd time Glossip's execution has been stayed. He told us this "yo-yo" is nothing but torture for all involved.

Glossip is convicted for the murder of Barry Van Treese and the Van Treese family told News 9 the only response they can muster is “unbelievable.”
