A 56-year-old man faces first-degree murder charges after walking into the Oklahoma City Police Department and admitting to murder.
Jimmy Hankins was arrested earlier this month, and now he's facing formal charges in the death of his wife.
His wife, Susan Willingham-Hankins, had been dead more than a year when he walked into the police station, August 14, and admitted to killing her. Everyone thought Susan died of natural causes.
Court documents detail Jimmy Hankins’ shocking confession.
Hankins said his wife suffered from dementia and other medical conditions. He admitted to homicide detectives that he suffocated his wife with a pillow because he did not want to take care of her anymore.
Hankins told police that he doubled his wife's dose of Xanax, and took her off her thyroid medication before eventually removing her oxygen and suffocating her.
Then, he tried to cover his tracks by making it look like natural causes and having her cremated.
But it seems the guilt ate away at him.
In his statement to police Hankins reportedly said, " I knew what I did was premeditated. I knew she could have lived and I took that from her".
