Louisiana State Trooper Shot In Head During Traffic Stop

A Louisiana State Police trooper was shot in the head during a traffic stop Sunday, reports CBS affiliate WWL-TV.

Col. Mike Edmonson, the head of state police, said the trooper pulled over a driver suspected of being impaired in the Lake Charles area when the shooting occurred. Passing motorists were able to detain the suspect until additional troopers arrived to make the arrest, he said.

Edmonson said other passersby helped treat the trooper until first responders arrived.

Police haven't released the condition and identity of the trooper.

The identity of the suspect also hasn't been released.
