An Oklahoma City woman says a landlord is making her wheelchair-bound husband a prisoner inside their home.
This all has to do with a wheelchair ramp Betty Gray says her landlord Jay Aghajan promised to install.
Gray said she and her 75-year-old husband Veldon Gray moved into the run-down 5-plex at 3204 South Portland three months ago.
Aghajan told her he was “a Christian,” and would install that ramp, so Veldon Gray could get in and out of unit 91 through a back door, Betty Gray said.
The Grays said local organizations including the Shriners have also offered to build the ramp as well, but Aghajan won’t let them.
Oklahoma City’s Action Center told News 9 since the apartment is on private property, there is nothing they can do, without the property owner’s approval.
Betty Gray said she doesn’t know what to do next for her husband.
“I just want him to be safe, because, right now, he’s not safe. If there’s a fire, there’s no way I can get him out of this apartment,” Betty Gray said.
News 9 tried to talk to Aghajan at the rundown 5-plex Wednesday afternoon.
Before speeding away in his pickup truck, he told me to call his attorney. Calls made to the attorney were not returned by the time of broadcast or publishing.
