Ref Punched In Face After Controversial Call At High School Quarterfinal Football Game

The refs who officiated the controversial high school playoff game where a touchdown was wrongly nullified, say more needs to be done for their safety.

The refs improperly enforced a penalty that took away a Douglas High Trojan touchdown Friday night against Locust Grove High.

“I feel sick about it,” said Head Linesman Chad Moyer.

Moyer said he was punched in the face after the game while he and the other officials were taken to a locker room.

“I actually feared for my crew and myself,” said Moyer, who said police were only called after punches were thrown.

News 9 checked with the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) and discovered it does not require police at football games. Moyer said that needs to change.

“Every event should have officers or security at them for now on,” said Moyer.

OKC Public Schools said it will investigate the allegation of punches thrown, but only after it hears from the OSSAA on whether to replay the final minute of the game when the touchdown was scored.

The OSSAA hosts state football playoff games at neutral sites for the Semi-finals and finals. Police officers are at these games.

Locust Grove High versus Douglass High was a playoff quarterfinal match-up. The OSSAA Board is expected to make a final decision at 4 p.m. during a Wednesday meeting.
