Infant Killed, Multiple Injuries Reported In Large Guthrie Fire

An infant was killed and multiple people were injured in a fire at an apartment complex in Guthrie, Oklahoma, early Wednesday morning. 

According to the fire department, firefighters responded to the fire at about 3 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 900 block of N. Pine Street.

Crews searched for an 8-month-old baby who was unaccounted for. Authorities later confirmed with News 9 that the infant they had been looking for was killed in the fire. 

Multiple people were injured when they were forced to jump from the second floor of the complex to escape the flames. The fire has destroyed at least eight units.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow said they will not release the name of the infant who died in the fire. 

Officials with the American Red Cross said they are currently reaching out to the families affected by the apartment fire. The organization will provide assistance based on their needs. This help can include a 3-night hotel stay, funds for clothing, food, shoes and seasonal clothing. 

Red Cross officials said they can also help replace important medications. Services are provided based on needs. The Red Cross also has mental health workers available. For services not offered by the Red Cross, caseworkers will provide referrals to their partner agencies.
