ODOT Looks At Ways To Improve Safety Along State Highway 9

A packed house at the Little Axe Community Center Tuesday night listened to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation's (ODOT) plans for a three-mile stretch of State Highway 9 some say is way past due.

ODOT says there have been at least 136 accidents on highway 9, between 72nd and 108th Ave., since 2004. ODOT says it, along with the Federal Highway Administration, will widen that stretch from two to four lanes.

"Well we got a lot of lake traffic on it and Casino traffic on it," said resident Bobby Stevens.

ODOT says construction will begin in 2020 and will be finished in less than two years. The price tag will be $13 million.
