Sam Garza scored his first professional goal for Arizona United SC who defeated OKC Energy FC 2-1 Saturday night in front of 3,438 at Pribil Stadium.
After Energy FC defender Cyprian Hedrick committed a foul on a United shot attempt inside the OKC penalty box, Garza was awarded a penalty shot he soon after bounced off the right post and into the Energy FC net, giving Arizona a decisive 2-0 lead in the 75th minute of play.
Energy FC cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 77th minute when Adda Djeziri took a touch pass from Javier Castro near midfield that split the Arizona defense and took a shot that deflected off United keeper Evan Newton and into the Arizona net.
OKC had several chances in the second half, recording 14 of its 20 shots in the half, but Newton saved each of Energy FC's six shots on goal, en route to a total of eight saves on the match for the Arizona keeper.
United led the entirety of the match, registering their first goal in the fourth minute of play when Jonathan Top headed an Arizona cross into the OKC six yard box and Long Tan pushed it past Energy FC keeper Samir Badr.
With their second consecutive loss, Energy FC dropped to 8-10-5 on the season. Arizona United SC improved to 7-12-5.
Energy FC is back in action Saturday, August 16, when they take on LA Galaxy II in a 7 p.m. start at Pribil Stadium.
