Norman Police Release Officer Identities In Cleveland Co. Shooting

The Norman Police Department has released the identities of two officers involved in a shooting that injured one suspect last weekend. The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office also released the identity of the deputy, who was present at the time of the shooting.

According to Norman police, Forrest (Trey) Perry and Nathaniel Worthley were the two officers involved in Saturday's shooting of suspect Jimmie Wheeler. Captain Tom Easley with the Norman Police Department says both officers remain on paid administrative assignment pending the investigation.

Christopher Noel was the deputy present at the time of the shooting, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.

Jimmie Wheeler, 44, led police on a 35-minute chase Saturday afternoon that started in Norman and ended only three miles away at 192nd Avenue and E. Rock Creek Road, where Wheeler wrecked his car.

Police say Wheeler got out of his car, and his suspicious behavior led to shots fired.

Captain Easley says the preliminary investigation indicates that only Perry fired at Wheeler.

Wheeler was booked in the Cleveland County jail for eluding a police officer, after receiving treatment at OU Medical Center for a gunshot wound to his torso.

On Monday, Del City police identified Wheeler as the man who robbed a Walmart on August 6.

According to Del City police, detectives obtained arrest warrants last Friday, after television viewers helped police identify Wheeler as the suspect. Wheeler has an extensive record in Arizona that includes robbery with a firearm, and has been arrested recently in Oklahoma for unrelated charges still pending.

Del City police said Wheeler is suspected in at least two more Del City robberies and one robbery in Midwest City that occurred in 2013.

Easley says the investigation is on-going, and detectives have not ruled out additional criminal charges against Wheeler.
