Zach Lowe of Grantland is reporting that the Thunder made a pre-draft arrangement with rookie wing Josh Huestis.
Lowe reportedly spoke with Huestis’ agent, Mitchell Butler, and Butler told Lowe that the Thunder promised to take Huestis at No. 29 as long as Huestis agreed to sign with the Thunder’s D-League affiliate, the 66ers.
Lowe claims that Butler wasn’t sure whether his client would be drafted in either round and saw this arrangement as the best way to ensure that Huestis got picked. Huestis was projected to go late in the second round or not at all.
According to the report, Huestis was on board with the D-League idea only if the Thunder or Spurs were to be the ones involved – no other franchises.
The defensive standout averaged 11.2 points per game last season at Stanford.
