OKC Energy FC captain Michael Thomas earned a spot on the USL PRO Team of the Week for Week 18 on Tuesday.
Thomas scored the match-tying goal in second-half stoppage time as Energy FC extended its unbeaten streak to eight with a 1-1 draw against Arizona United SC Thursday night at Pribil Stadium.
Thomas tallied his fourth goal of the season in the match’s final minutes, netting a penalty kick in stoppage time that came as the result of an Arizona foul on a preceding Energy FC corner kick opportunity. On the corner kick, the referee signaled a foul just before OKC’s Paul Wyatt headed the ball into the Arizona net. On the ensuing penalty kick, Thomas pushed his kick to the right side of the net as Arizona keeper Evan Newton dived to the left.
Wilmington Hammerheads FC goalkeeper Quillan Roberts was named Player of the Week. Roberts recorded back-to-back shutouts as Wilmington claimed four points from its trip to the northeast, which moved the club into sixth place in the USL PRO standings.
Energy FC is back in action Wednesday evening against the Harrisburg City Islanders at 6 p.m. CT.
