Raul Mendiola scored the match’s lone goal as LA Galaxy II ended Energy FC’s unbeaten streak at eight games with a 1-0 victory over OKC in front of a season-high sold-out crowd of 4,102 Saturday night at Pribil Stadium.
Mendiola’s goal came in the 75th minute of play after Galaxy II midfielder Dragan Stojkov worked the ball into the left side of the OKC penalty box before dishing to Mendiola, who fired a shot past a diving Energy FC keeper Samir Badr into the low right side of the net.
Energy FC’s best chance of the match came in the 55th minute of play when David Leichty shot a bounding pass from Javier Castro from about 15 yards out, but Galaxy II keeper Cody Laurendi dived in front and deflected the shot away.
In the 63rd minute of play, OKC’s Steven Perry chased a loose ball into the top of the LA penalty box where he collided with a charging Laurendi. While both players lay on the pitch, referee Kyle Phillips issued a red card to Laurendi, but the card was later waved off as the play had been ruled offside prior to the collision.
Though Galaxy II outshot Energy FC 12-8, both teams tallied three shots on goal – LA with six in each half and OKC with four in each.
Energy FC’s next match is Wednesday, July 23, when it travels to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and takes on the City Islanders at 6:00 p.m. CST.
