Ardmore Officer Facing Criminal Charges For Poisoning Dogs

An Ardmore police officer accused of poisoning several of his neighbors dogs made his initial appearance in court Wednesday.

Barry Antwine along with his attorney, David Slane, appeared in front of a judge and pled not guilty to one misdemeanor count of laying out poison for domestic animals.

Neighbors said several animals died after drinking the poison.

"We were helping some friends leave, she wandered out, just got out the door that day, was back within four minutes," explained one neighbor, who asked to not be identified. "It wasn't until late that night she started getting sick."

Her dog, Snickers, had been a part of the family for six years. They got her when her husband was deployed to Iraq.

"My little boy that's four, that's all he has ever known," the neighbor said.

Prosecutors say Antwine put a substance containing ethylene glycol into a cool whip container and put it outside his house for dogs roaming the neighborhood to drink.

Antwine has been suspended from his position at the Ardmore Police Department pending the outcome of this investigation.

If convicted, Antwine could face up to a year in prison and or a $500 fine.
