Mustang Teenager Arrested After Making Threat At School

A Mustang High School student is arrested for threatening to hurt his classmates.

Mustang Police arrested a 15-year-old freshman, Wednesday. The juvenile's name will not be released to the public but the circumstances surrounding the arrest were released Thursday.

Mustang Police Detective Camie McNeil said a 15-year-old freshman allegedly announced his plans to harm himself and his classmates on the last day of school, May 23.

Instead of waiting to see if the threat was real - students immediately reported the incident to the assistant principal at Mustang High School.

"We have to take every threat as though it might occur," Sean McDaniel, Mustang Schools Superintendent said.

McDaniel says the district safety plan proved to be successful. Administrators contacted the parent of the student in question and asked that he be kept home from school, pending an investigation. Mustang Police began interviewing students, faculty, and the suspect.

"We found the threats to be credible," said McDaniel.

Police arrested the 15-year-old suspect on a felony complaint of planning or endeavoring to commit an act of violence.

"That young man will also have to deal with discipline handed out from the school district," said McDaniel.

The superintendent also issued a letter to the parents of 2,800 students enrolled at the high school. He explained the situation and assured everyone the school is safe from the threat and that the district will take appropriate actions.

"We feel not only confident in the system -- but very grateful," said McDaniel.

The student is in custody. Formal charges have not been filed.
