For the first time in her career, sophomore Kady Self has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Self was nearly unstoppable in the Sooners' three-game series sweep at Iowa State. She reached safely in her first nine plate appearances of the weekend, going 7-7 with three home runs, a double and two walks before flying out to center field in the second inning of Sunday's contest.
For the weekend, Self led the Sooners in runs (7), hits (7), home runs (3), total bases (17) and slugging (1.889).
In Friday's opener, Self finished 3-3 with a pair of home runs, three runs scored and five runs batted in to establish career highs in each category. In 45 career games entering the contest, she had just three hits, one home run and two runs batted in.
Self followed that performance Saturday by going 3-3 again with three runs scored, two runs batted in, a home run and a walk.
Sunday, she picked up another double and a walk as Oklahoma extended its winning streak over the Cyclones to 21 games.
Oklahoma has now won four weekly conference honors as Whitney Ellis (player) and Kelsey Stevens (pitcher) earned the awards on March 11, while Destinee Martinez was recognized as the Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 25.
The Sooners return to action Wednesday night with the first Bedlam matchup of the season against Oklahoma State. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and the contest will air on Fox Sports Southwest Plus.
