Your 2 Cents: 'Common Sense' Zero Tolerance Act Goes Too Far

Responding to a little boy in Maryland suspended from school for chewing a pop tart into the shape of a gun, State Rep. Sally Kern has filed a bill that calls for common sense on the issue, but also opens the door to small toy weapons in school and more.

I'm for the common sense, but I think she's opened the door to wide. Here's what you had to say:

William starts us: "I rarely agree with Kelly Ogle on anything, but this is one of those times that I do. She is totally gutting the schools' and teachers' ability to enforce any meaningful zero tolerance policy by riddling that policy full of holes."

Debra writes: "Yes, common sense is needed! However, I disagree with allowing toy weapons of any sizes."

Go Fast says: "While I'm not a fan of the extremism often exhibited by Sally K, I would support most of this law. Take out the 'toy guns allowed' part."

Keith thinks it doesn't go far enough: "Just make it simple. No fake guns of ANY kind will be punished. This whole thing is out of control nationwide thanks to the liberal agenda."

Sharon writes: "You are absolutely right! This is going too far!!!"

But Robert says: "We actually do need this type of law in legislation."

Finally from Paul: "I thought we paid Superintendents those huge salaries to put people and policies in that make sense. Zero tolerance does not mean zero intelligence!"
