A local woman celebrated her 113th birthday on Christmas Eve at Heritage Assisted Living in Oklahoma City.
Gerontology groups say that makes Ora Holland the oldest living person in Oklahoma, and the ninth-oldest person in the United States.
Holland's grandson T.J. Davis says his grandmother mowed her own lawn until he made her stop four years ago. He says she bought a brand-new Buick in 2004 "with cash," and was licensed to drive in Oklahoma until she was 110 years old.
"She is what I see as an American Tale," he said. "She came from poverty with 11 brothers and sisters and made her own way."
Ora Holland started the first known in-home daycare center in the Dallas area more than 70 years ago, according to her grandson.
