OKC Completes Storm Debris Collection

Contractors and waste management crews have finished collecting storm debris from the May 20 and May 31 tornadoes, according to a news release from Oklahoma City.

Crews collected approximately 120,000 tons of debris from both storms. That's the average amount of bulk waste the city collects in four years.

It took eight weeks to pick up the debris. Beginning August 8, Oklahoma City bulk waste collection crews will return to their usual routes, and normal rules of bulk waste collection will apply.

The city says contract crews will remove debris only in the storm-designated area when damaged homes are cleared from the property.
